Youth & Children’s Co-Ordinator



Job purpose

To oversee and develop Chudleigh Baptist church’s existing children’s and youth work provision, reaching out to and discipling children and young people in Chudleigh.



Key responsibilities

  • Oversee the effective running of our current Sunday morning provision (Reception-Y7) by building, equipping and supporting a team of volunteers and leading some sessions with Y6-7 children.

  • Lead and develop our two mid-week youth groups (Y6-7 and Y8-13). This will involve; working alongside our existing team and developing new team; creating a programme of sessions aimed to build relationships, deepen faith and create moments of encounter along the journey for each young person; communicate with parents, building relationship and trust.

  • Provide one-to-one pastoral care for young people, as appropriate and look to develop a mentoring programme for those young people who are part of the church family.

  • Set aside regular time to pray for the work, the young people and the community and seek God on how the work develops.

  • Organise and accompany young people to camps, events, social outings, mission trips.

  • Work alongside the church school’s worker appointed by the churches in Chudleigh to provide a holistic ministry in the town.

  • Working alongside the church’s safeguarding team, take responsibility for implementing our safer recruiting procedure and safeguarding policies.

  • Ensure that all our work fits with the policies and procedures of the church and best practice guidelines and is adequately risk assessed.

  • Attend leadership team meetings and church fellowship meetings to champion the youth & children’s ministry and give regular updates on how the work is going.

  • Help to develop, alongside the leadership team, a church culture that is inter-generational and offers practical expressions of service within the church and the wider community for young people.

  • Attend regular team briefings with the minister, safeguarding meetings, prayer times and planning meetings, as necessary.

  • Any other duty, as required by the leadership, appropriate to the role.



We are seeking a person who:



  • Displays a Christ centred lifestyle and a desire to deepen their relationship with God, demonstrating this to the young people and wider community.

  • Has experience in leading children and young people in exploring faith, enabling and encouraging them to grow in their relationship with Jesus personally and as a group.

  • Has a broad understanding and appreciation of the Bible and its application to everyday life.

  • Has experience of working with young people in the wider community and providing opportunities for them to explore faith.

  • Demonstrates good communication skills with the ability to differentiate between ages, abilities and settings.

  • Demonstrates a good understanding of age-appropriate session planning and application.

  • Can co-ordinate, encourage and lead teams of volunteers and recruit new volunteers as needed.

  • Has the confidence to lead, and the humility to learn and take direction from others.

  • Is willing to join the church family at Chudleigh Baptist Church as a fellow disciple.




  • Has a professional youth work qualification with JNC.

  • Has good IT skills and an ability to adapt to new technology.

  • Current First Aid Qualification

  • Has their own transport (Transport links to Chudleigh are limited to bus and taxi)

  • Experience in building positive relationships with other youth and community focused organisations and service providers.



This position is for 20 hours per week with a salary of £9,000-11,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.


There will be flexibility in when the hours are worked but due to the nature of the work, there will be the need to work evenings and weekends, including Sundays. The post-holder will be entitled to 112 hours holiday per year, normally to be taken outside term time. No more than 6 Sundays may be taken as holiday. The post is subject to a 6-month probation period.


Any offer of employment will be dependent on an enhanced DBS check being completed. Level 3 safeguarding training will be provided to the postholder and other opportunities for training as agreed with the minister. The role requires applicants to have the right to work in the UK.
