The Children's and Youth Ministry is a major part of Chudleigh Baptist Church. Our aim is to help children and young people feel part of our community, grow in their knowledge and love of God, to learn what the Bible says and encounter God in a way that equips us in our everyday lives.

On Sundays we normally begin our services all together, then run a comprehensive programme in separate rooms for our kids and youth, including an area for babies and toddlers equipped with toys and books! These sessions are run by volunteers from our church family, who plan carefully to make a meangingful and fun experience for our children. All team members are DBS checked.

Vision

Our vision is to see the children and young people become an integral part of our family. Our desire is for the young people to see value in and feel valued by the family, which will encourage them to use their talents and gifts for the good of the wider family and the wider community. We would love to see young people taking an active part in leading the church family forward, creating a culture that is welcoming to all.

Values

Values are the characteristics that define our work with Children and Young People.

  • Encounter – Our desire is that all children and young people will encounter the love and goodness of God through the work we do. These encounters are the formational moments that let them know God is real, God loves them and God has a plan for their lives. We aim to encourage young people to encounter God in every aspect of life, not just designated moments such as services and events.

  • Journey – Encounters are often the start of the journey of faith. As a church we want children and young people to embark on a lifelong journey of becoming more like the people God desires us to be. Along the way we pray that there are continual encounters that spur them on. This journey is best travelled together and so we aim to provide support and encouragement for the children and young people, both from other young people and from trusted adults.

  • Service – We will create intentional moments for the children and young people to serve and put their faith into action. These opportunities will be within the church family and the wider community, helping the children and young people to understand who they are in God and the gifts and talents they have.

  • Authenticity – We desire to have an authentic and real relationship with the children and young people we have the opportunity to work with, and for them to have an authentic and real relationship with us, other young people and with God. Our belief is that young people flourish most when there is an authentic desire to see them grow and develop into the fullness of who they were created to be.

The Youth (Y6-9) also meet every Tuesday at The Parish Church from 7-8pm and enjoy food, games and discussion. Our older youth (Y9+) meet on alternate Sundays from

7-8.30pm at the Square

Some of the highlights of our year are going to SW Spree. This is organised by South West Youth Ministries and is a weekend of camping and fun but with the aim of enabling children and young people to deepen their relationship with Jesus. We have been each year since 2011 and they absolutely love it! Highlights involve Duggie Dug Dug, Inflatable Sumo Wrestling, Writeway, Spree's Got Talent, archery, kayaking, raft building and so much more!! (Highlights for the leaders are getting home to a real bed at the end of it all!)
